We now know at least one thing that Tampa Bay Rowdies head coach Stuart Campbell was likely up to during his recent extended trip to England.

It appears as though the Rowdies have been in contact with midfielder Sam Saunders of English Championship side Brentford FC.

When interviewed by Get West London, Saunders is quoted in saying “There is some truth in that. It’s something that’s happened between the clubs, and nothing is set in stone. But particularly a month ago when I wasn’t in the team, it’s something that was strong, so it’s something we’re sitting down and discussing at the minute.”

But, in the article from the 27th of January, he goes on to say he hasn’t fully made up his mind:

“We’re just talking generally at the minute (with Brentford). Because of the interest from America, we’re seeing what happens. A month ago it was going to be any easy decision for me as I wasn’t in the team, but now I’m back playing. I’ve been here seven years and loved every minute. I don’t know what will happen, all that stuff’s out of my control. It’s just talk at the minute. It’s always nice being wanted, and at the moment I’m wanted by Brentford.”

Saunders contract at Brentford is set to expire this summer and if they decline to offer him a new contract, the midfielder could be a midseason signing. The Rowdies currently have three international roster spots remaining.
